On Friday, October 10th, Leadership Seminoleʼs Class 18 will experience a day of creativity as part of their Arts and Culture Day. The group of community leaders will be divided into two groups and half of the class will roll up their sleeves and participate in painting a mural on the wall located on Municipal Way. The other group will participate in an outdoor plein air workshop painting a nature scene in the style of the renown Florida Highwaymen. The paint for both projects was donated by Color Wheel and the artist selected to lead the project is Rudy Drapiza, a well-respected artist in the Central Florida community.
Rudy has volunteered his time to teach Leadership Seminole for the past 3 years. Originally from the Philippines, he comes from a long legacy of professional artists that included his grandfather, father, and several uncles including Andy who has also volunteered to help in this project. Last year, Rudy worked with a group of AP art students from Lake Howell High School in creating a large scale mural of an “Old Florida” scene on the wall of the racquetball court located at Secret Lake Park.
Commercial artist and professional muralist Rudy Drapiza will be the guest artist at the Leesburg Art Association's first meeting of the 2008-09 season at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Cultural Arts Building, 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg.
Drapiza, who is from the Philippines, paints scenes of his native country, Central Florida and New York, among other places.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Memberships are available. Each month, the association hosts a guest artist to present a demonstration to members and guests.
View the landscapes and city scapes of very active artists who enjoy painting in Parks and gardens in Central Florida. Painting in the outdoors is a very challenging experience for the artist, and requires an adventurous spirit. It also involves using the natural light and capturing “a moment in time”. Capture an original plein air painting for your collection . Most paintings are small and reasonably priced, and fit into any decor. Come to the opening, meet this fun group of artists, and enjoy great snacks and drinks. Artists work in all mediums: oil, pastel, watercolor, mixed media, and members range from very established award winning artists to emerging artists.
